Wilderness Camp is located on the trails of Inspiration Hills. Sleeping at Wilderness Camp will allow you to wake up to the sound of nature every morning in your Tenabin (tent/cabin).

You will enjoy daily chapels, Bible studies, canoeing, food cooked over the fire, archery, low rope initiatives, and a community where friendships are made and Christ is encountered!

This camp will also teach you basic survival skills, such as learning to build a fire, eating with ONLY your hands, and other essential skills.

This rustic camp is a favorite among many!

What to Expect

REGISTRATION DAY

The first day of camp is a different experience for everyone. For some, excitement is high in anticipation of the adventure ahead, for others, it might be their first time away from home, and they are nervous! Their counselor's mission is to meet them where they're at, get to know them, and help them adjust to the new environment.

For Wilderness campers on this day, they'll get to experience chapel, hike deep into the woods to our Wilderness site, get settled into their "tenabins", enjoy a meal, and worship around the fire.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BUNK GROUP

On the second day of camp, Wilderness campers wake up to a hearty breakfast cooked around the campfire!

On this day, each bunk group will set out to complete their first of many team-building activities. These activities are designed to challenge campers to learn life skills, such as how to work well with others, communicate, and solve problems.

Of course, no day at Inspiration Hills is complete without praise and worship, chapel, Bible studies, and TAWG (time alone with God). In the afternoon, campers also get to experience OAT (open activity time). This is a free time in which campers can enjoy our various games and activities at their own pace. OAT activities include the pool, canteen, basketball and sand volleyball courts, slip n slide, and much more.

What makes Wilderness camp unique is the "wilder style" meals, in other words, NO SILVERWARE ALLOWED! At Wilder, we eat with our hands and our faces!

GETTING TO THE DEEP STUFF

After another day of camp, campers are learning to be more comfortable in their bunk group. The day starts with breakfast, another initiative, lunch, chapel and worship time, OAT, and a group activity.

For 7th-9th graders, these activities include our high ropes course and axe-throwing. For 4th-6th graders, it includes canoeing and archery tag.

However, what makes day three really special is the evening chapel, in which the gospel message is presented to campers. During this night, some campers will choose to give their lives to the Lord for the first time. Campers also get an opportunity to talk about their faith one-on-one with their counselor and ask any hard questions they may have.

EXPLORING "WHAT NOW?"

On this day, the campers once again wake up to another breakfast and another exciting day ahead of them. This is the last full day of the week.

After OAT, it's time for the most famous tradition Wilderness Camp has to offer, SPAGHETTI NIGHT! This usually culminates in a food fight (all in good fun, of course). The final night of camp also includes archery, a Wilderness exclusive, and one last chance to share stories and enjoy the company of your new friends around the fire.

FINAL CHAPEL!

After a long, exciting, life-changing week of spending time with friends and with the Lord, it's time to wrap up the summer camp experience. After breakfast, each camper packs up their things and participates in one final large group game.

During lunch, parents are welcome to bring their lawn chairs and come before noon for a big cookout and to enjoy final chapel. This chapel includes a recap of the week and one last opportunity for all campers to praise the Lord together before departure. We encourage campers to share with their families what they learned at camp on the ride home.

Memories that Last a Lifetime!

Wilderness Camp FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • Will my kid ever get to take a shower?

Wilderness Campers often pride themselves on not having to shower throughout the week. However, if your camper really would like to take a shower, there are times (like OAT) when they can do so in the showers at our swimming pool.

  • Where do I drop off my camper?

Drop off for all overnight camps is at the main lodge. There will be staff and signage to guide you through the process.

  • Will my camper have the opportunity to learn survival skills?

Some of the skills campers will learn include archery, fire building, and cooking over the fire.

  • Where will my camper be sleeping?

Campers will be sleeping in Tenabins at our Wilderness Camp site in the woods!

Campers will sleep in Tenabins (Tent Cabins) with wooden floors. There are fan units in the Tenabins to keep them cool.

  • What would you recommend for sleeping arrangements?

Campers may bring sleeping mats and large pillows to sleep on the floor of the tenabins. Feel free to bring whatever will make your camper most comfortable.

  • How do I RSVP to Final Chapel?

You may RSVP with the day camp coordinator at Monday registration or call the office at 712-986-5193.
